What kind of nutrition information will I learn at the retreat?

If joining us for day 3 of the retreat, we'll go in depth on healthy eating strategies for robust immunity, balanced hormones, increased vitality, and aging vibrantly.  Nutrition is often the gateway into healthy living. It is usually the first step people make when embarking on a healthy lifestyle change. Learning clean eating strategies is often a matter of practicality. Many are intimidated by the shift because understanding food labels and sourcing better quality foods can be a daunting task if you’re used to settling for what your supermarket and local restaurants have to offer. We will cover the why and how of sourcing organic, pasture raised, and local ingredients while learning how to still eat out and have a social life. We won’t be diving deep into very specific diets like GAPS, SCD, Paleo, Keto, Whole 30, etc., but you’ll have a great foundation for feel good eating and know how to find additional resources if you have a health condition that requires taking further steps. We’ll visit local farmer’s markets, farms, and farm-to-table restaurants to get up close and personal with the science and business of healthy eating and why making an investment in your food will save you thousands in healthcare costs.

What does belly dancing have to do with health and wellness?

It sounds like a stretch, I know, but I promise by the time you leave the retreat, you’ll have a practical and personal understanding of how belly dance, and many other forms of dance can play a significant role in rewiring your body and mind for health and wellness. Cultivating wellness is a very different approach than managing disease. This weekend will be the most fun you’ve ever had learning to build healthier habits that extend far beyond boring nutritional protocols and fitness routines. We’re going to learn how to work smarter, not harder, and build healthy, resilient bodies and minds often by eating more, moving with intention, and optimizing our nervous systems to sync all systems of our bodies for healthy weight management, resilient immune systems, balanced endocrine systems, optimally functioning digestive systems, and calm minds…. and we’re going to have a ridiculous amount of fun using pole dancing as our framework for achieving it within a holistic health and wellness model that addresses body, mind, and spirit.


I specialize in women’s health and work with women who are dealing with past trauma. Dance is a wonderful tool for creating alignment between body and mind and even working towards rewiring the body and mind for health after experiencing trauma. EVERYONE has experienced trauma whether it’s big T trauma or little t trauma. Understanding it’s role in health challenges, weight management issues, and even premature aging can be the missing link that unlocks your true health. Dance can be an incredible tool for connecting mind and body for deeper layers of healing that cannot be addressed through medication or even nutrition, in some cases.

I’ve never belly danced before. I’m worried I will look silly or not be able to do it.

Anyone can belly dance. The workshop is intended for beginners, but all skill levels are welcome and the educational experience that will help you understand how dance fits into a holistic health regimen and how engaging mind-body/body-mind healing modalities will be of tremendous value even if you’re already a seasoned pole dancer. No one will look silly because we’ll all be having fun and letting our walls down….

I’m planning to fly, what is the nearest airport?

Benton Harbor, Michigan is about a 90 minute drive from Chicago, an hour from Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids, and a little over 2 hours from Detroit. If you’ll be flying in for the retreat, the South Bend Region Airport is the closest commercial airport and is about a 45 minute drive from the Bell Tower Retreat Center. The Gerald R Ford Airport in Grand Rapids is also just over an hour drive. Midway and O’Hare Airports in Chicago are under two hours away.

What is biohacking and why should I learn how to use it?

Biohacking is simply making alterations to your lifestyle to optimize your biology. It approaches health from a standpoint of maximizing your feel good potential rather than managing sickness. Biohacking can include technology, tools, nutrition, neutraceuticals, conscious movement, and mindfulness strategies to optimize all aspects of your health. While biohacking can involve fancy gadgets and testing, it’s really more about learning to listen to what your body is telling you. You know your body better than anyone else and are in the best position to be the executive of your own health and wellness. Biohacking simply gives you some additional strategies and techniques to make the most of your own body literacy.

I’ve never done yoga or meditation before, will I be able to follow along?

If joining us for day 3 of the workshop, the yoga and meditation at the event is intended for all levels including beginners. Our instructors will give full instruction and assistance as needed. No prior experience is necessary, however, if you are well practiced in yoga, meditation, and breathwork, you will fit right in too!

Are there any prerequisites for attending the retreat?

No, just come prepared to have an amazing weekend in Southwest Michigan! If you’d like to get a leg up, I strongly recommend reading The Body Keeps the Score by Dr. Besel van Der Kolk, MD. This book is the foundation of much of what we will be discussing with regards to mind-body medicine and root cause healing.
